Joe Jackson Makes Parenting Bid for Michael's Kids

While his role as the driving force in the Jackson family success has never been in question, father Joe Jackson's parenting — especially with Michael — has long been a subject of scrutiny and controversy. So it's all the more surprising that the driven patriarch is now working to forge a larger role for himself in the lives of Michael's three children.

In a partial interview released on ABC on Friday, taken from a longer interview to be aired July 14, Joe says that both he and estranged wife Katherine should take on permanent guardianship duties now that Michael has died. "Their grandmother Katherine and I should raise them," Joe said. "Yes there's no one else who can do what we can do for them. We should keep them all together and make them happy. Feed them like they are supposed to be fed."

Previously there had not been a significant "we" in the children equation. As Michael requested in his will, Katherine has been granted legal temporary guardianship of Prince Michael I, 12, Paris Michael Katherine, 11, and Prince Michael II (also known as Blanket), 7. Deborah Rowe, the biological mother of Prince Michael I and Paris Michael Katherine, who had renounced her parental rights years ago, had stated an interest in taking custody of all three children in a recent interview and her lawyer is involved in the guardianship proceedings. A guardianship hearing set for Monday in Los Angeles was postponed until July 20. Katherine's lawyer said in a statement that the week delay would allow the opportunity to "privately and amicably" resolve the issue.

While still legally married, Katherine and Joe have long been separated, even residing in different states for the past few years. Michael was often vocal about his critique of Joe's parenting techniques, telling Oprah Winfrey in 1993 that there was "a lot of sadness" in his childhood. He revealed his father would tease him about his pimples and would even beat him. Jackson said his father was "very hard" and that he was "frightened" of him. In the same interview, he referred to his mother as "wonderful" and "perfection

Jackson biographer and family friend Stacy Brown says Joe's re-emergence is not out of character. "No one can put reins on Joe," Stacy says. "With a potential custody battle and knowing that he would likely be among the negatives discussed [in any court battle], Joe does what Joe wants."

Mark Lester, godparent to Michael's children, says he is not concerned by Joe's statements. "In recent years, Michael and Joe had repaired a lot of the emotional trauma that had gone on before," Lester told TIME. He says that Joe has a different relationship with his grandchildren: "I've seen how Joe reacts with the kids, he's very loving with them."

In the ABC extract, Joe was asked if he felt the Jackson children could go into show business. "I don't know," Joe responded. "I keep watching Paris. She wants to do something." He added that Blanket can "really dance."

Joe more recently drew criticism when he plugged his fledgling recording company project at appearances following Michael's death. The circumstances behind his interview with ABC also raised eyebrows, as unconfirmed word leaked out that Jackson had received $200,000 for the use of family films, which critics have decried as profiteering.

From being the hunted to the hunter, Wentworth Miller is guest starring on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" as a police officer. The ex-inmate of "Prison Break" puts up his NYPD suit and saves a rape victim in the episode called "Unstable".

His character is named Nate Kendal and he interacts with Det. Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson. In the clip which has just been released, Captain Donald Cragen holds Nate to work with the unit in solving the case although the officer is reluctant to do so.

Wentworth Miller shot his scene earlier this week in New York City. Show's regular Ice-T tweeted about sharing a scene with the star, writing "Just did a scene with Wentworth. It's crazy for me to act with people I watch on TV & Movies. I'm still a big fan. That never changes!"

The pretty Keke Palmer, 15 (yeah, I thought she was older than that), attended the ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ film premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square in London, England this week. Above is a picture of her.

And if you remember from my other post about Keke, I am a huge fan of her television show. She stars in Nickelodeon series "True Jackson VP". The premise of the show is that she is Vice President of Youth Apparel at Mad Style, a fashion company.

And since the show is about fashion and she is the VP of youth apparel on the show, she coming out with, you guessed it.........A FASHION LINE !!!!!

She is going to have a new clothing line called "Mad Styles by:True Jackson", which is expected to be in Wal-Mart stores in time for back-to-school shopping this fall ! I wonder if I can fit in those clothes !

So extraordinary and enviable is her physique, that Elle Macpherson is known as The Body.

Yet at the grand old age of 45, positively ancient in supermodel terms, she appears to be showing the first signs of wear and tear.

Photographed as she attended a glamorous party to launch a new Jaguar car at the Saatchi Gallery in West London, Miss Macpherson wore a short gold dress which showed off her legs fabulously.

On closer inspection, the knee and thigh on the model's right leg appear to be suffering from the dreaded appearance of sagging loose skin.

The condition, often called 'creping' by cosmetic surgeons, is the result of nothing more than the aging of the skin making it less firm and taut.

The effect is particularly prevalent on people who have little fat on their bodies and who have spent much of their lives in sunnier climes, which happens to be the case with Miss Macpherson.

Beyoncé's filling arenas on her 'I Am...' tour, Kelly's filling dancefloors with a little help from French DJ David Guetta, and now Michelle's about to fill London's Cambridge Theatre as murderous showgirl Roxie Hart in Chicago. Here's an interview with Michelle.

What made you want to appear in Chicago?
"Well, the musical itself is obviously legendary and I'd have been a fool not to attach myself to it. Also, I felt it was time for me to get back on that theatre stage. In between each album I want to take on some kind of theatre project and I seem to be managing it so far."

Last year you released Unexpected, your first pop album as a solo artist. Were you pleased with how it was received?
"Of course I wanted better sales and to be able to tour, but I was pleased with the reception it got considering it was my very first mainstream pop album. I'm kinda known as a gospel girl, so I think I have to push a little harder to make people believe I can also do pop music. I think the album did well at getting that message across."

Mais....... )

Finally, there's a rumour going round that Destiny's Child are contractually obliged to reform for one last album. Is there any truth to this?
"You know, I honestly don't know. Is there anybody from Sony on the line to help me out? I'm not giving you the answer I've been told to give or anything, but to my understanding I'm not obligated. Would I be up for a reunion? Oh definitely, but one day in the future when everybody's ready to do the group thing again."

Michelle Williams stars in Chicago at London's Cambridge Theatre from July 13 to August 23.

Robert Plant CBE has promised he will not pull rank with Jimmy Page OBE after receiving the royal honour at Buckingham Palace this week.

The 60-year old Led Zeppelin singer rocked up to the Palace on Friday with his daughter Carman and sons Jordan and Logan to be handed the medal by Prince Charles.

Plants Commander of the British Empire is a higher honour than Jimmy’s Order of the British Empire but Commander Plant says it will not cause a fight between the Led Zeppelin legends.

"If we can remember each other's phone number at this time in life it's a miracle," he joked during the ceremony. "We're still good friends, we both enjoy a rather dark sense of humor that comes, I think, from being from rather the wrong side of the tracks for all those wild years."

Plant received the award for his “Services to popular music”.

Jimmy Page received the OBE four years ago.

Dan: I have to say, I think this is, in terms of the comedy, this is Rupert's finest hour in this film. I think he's absolutely brilliant in the movie and is, kind of reveals himself to be a fantastic practitioner of physical comedy. The scene on the broomstick in Quidditch is something like out of Buster Keaton. It's absolutely brilliant and I was belly-laughing.

Tauntaun sleeping bag inches closer to reality

From the file of things so cool we wish they were real: That sleeping bag in the shape of a Tauntaun from The Empire Strikes Back, which ThinkGeek.com posted as an April Fool's joke this year. (Such cunning details, like the lightsaber zipper, meant to evoke Han's evisceration of the poor creature.)

Well, we weren't alone in wanting one, of course, and the site was compelled to post this note:
Due to an overwhelming tsunami of requests from YOU THE PEOPLE, we have decided to TRY and bring this to life. We have no clue if the suits at Lucasfilms will grant little ThinkGeek a license, nor do we know how much it would ultimately retail for. But if you are interested in ever owning one of these, click the link below and we'll try!

Now comes news from the LA Weekly that ThinkGeek has been working with Lucasfilm to get an actual license to produce the thing, which will likely be modified from the design in the spoof (and also likely cost a bit more than the $39 on the fake ad). Here's what ThinkGeek's PR guy, Shane Peterman, told the weekly newspaper:
We are definitely trying to make it into an actual item to be sold on our site. As of right now, it's still an "if," but it's turning into more of a "when." Things are looking pretty good, we just don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. There's certainly been enough of a demand, both from customers and from those of us that work here. Right now, we're aiming to have it available for the holidays or, at the latest, the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back next spring.

Have you gotten the go-ahead from Lucas?

We're still working with Lucas to get approval for a final design. Again, it's looking good, we just can't say too much right now since it's still in the works.

Of course, if history is our guide, it's always possible that Lucasfilm will go ahead and copy the thing and just sell it themselves.

i HOPE SO. I LOOOVE ThinkGeek! I ordered a Mogwai(GIZMO) from them, as well as a Flux Capacitor for my car. [/geek.]

oh wait.
eta: [geek] It was LUKE, not han, who ripped open the tauntaun, Lightsaber says it all..
okay. [/geek]

i got owned.

Band will begin work on third album next week

Maroon 5 are headed to Switzerland next week to work on their third album with Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange.

The record is the follow-up to ‘It Won’t be Soon Before Long’, and according to guitarist James Valentine, the band have written a number of songs that will likely make it on to the record:

“The two stand out songs so far are called ‘How’ and ‘Don't Know Much About That’,” Valentine tells NME.COM, adding that a direction for the record has yet to be decided:

“It's still hard to say what the vibe will be yet, so much will change once we get in the studio and past this demoing phase. There have been a batch of straight-ahead rock songs and a batch of more dance-y and classic soul-influenced tunes.”

Maroon 5 have sold over 15 million albums worldwide, and have gone gold and platinum in over 35 countries. Their new album is due out in 2010.

Lange’s previously worked with the likes of AC/DC and The Cars.

Note: The article originally came from a Swedish website, which I ran through Google translator. I then did my best to copyedit it, but it's not perfect.

13-year-old Lina Leandersson has received awards in the U.S. for "best breakthrough role," and for "best female leading role." But she has no idea when DD hits her. "Oh, what fun! But it feels really weird," she says.

Nine months have passed since the premiere of the hit movie "Let the Right One In". Although the film has been sold to over 50 countries and has received lots of awards and accolades, life is not very different for Lina Leandersson, one of the protagonists.

She will begin in eighth grade at Gruvrisskolan and dances, studying and socializing with friends at leisure.

But she has a dream to start a theater or film school in high school. "The dream is to support me as an actress and to play different kinds of roles, "she says.

In "Let the Right One In" Lina Leandersson plays Eli, which is a different role. Eli is the vampire, which Lina Leandersson had no idea when she searched the role. She saw on the internet to search for a 12 year old boy or girl who were good at running, so she searched believing that it was "an ordinary film at the cinema."

"I got a shock when they said that Eli was a vampire. But it was just fun, "she says.

And the role seems to suit her. Several scenes were played in three on the night - and she tends to be brisk. "I fall asleep wake up three and eight, so I sleep only five hours. Then I can sleep away a whole day of the week, "she says.

In November last year Lina Leandersson was listed as one of the world's hottest vampires, along with Robert Pattison from the movie "Twilight" and Stephen Moyer from the television series "True Blood".

It was USA Today, the USA's largest newspaper, which examined the phenomenon of vampire movies and felt that the only 13-year old actress was one of the best in the industry.
